Abstract:  

A hollow white pine model, exhibiting a paddle system. One side carries eight paddles on an endless chain. One of the two sprockets carrying this chain extends through the model to a wooden lever on the other side. Through this lever the movement of the paddle-chain can be demonstrated. Unmarked. Abstract:  

Wooden model of white pine and maple, except for sails and gearing. A flat triangular body rides on three wheels, the single rear wheel turning under the direction of a tiller. A system of gearing controls the single fore-and-aft sail. The model was reconstructed in 1959 from disassembled parts which existed in the collection. At that time a missing gear and idler connecting the two sail frames was fabricated. (Robert P. Multhauf, "Catalogue of Instruments and Models," 1961).

Wooden (oak) model of an arched bridge, the arch of which consists of six timbers bound together by iron straps and rods. Only half of the bridge is shown in detail. The second, presumably symetrical, half of the arch is represented by two curved boards. The roadway is also shown only in outline. Only the upper and lower timbers extend the full length of the half arch. The remaining four are of various lengths, cut to fit the bottom timber to which they are fastened by iron straps. Cross timbers held together by iron tie-rods hold together the top and bottom timbers. (Robert P. Multhauf, "Catalogue of Instruments and Models," 1961).
